Here are the very latest comments that have been sent to the editor. For a full list go to the Suggestion Box

Albert From Houston Texas writes: "What do I want to see in the 2008 X5?

  • Include the Spare-tire with the third row seat.

  • Replace the N52 engine in the 3.0 si with the N54 engine. The N52 engine is too weak for a vehicle this size.

  • Increase the cushion size of the third row seat.

  • Combine the sports and the M-Package.

  • Improve on the electronics control- it ridiculous to find a three week old car having problems with the A/C vent control.

Daniel Infusino from Wisconsin writes: "I’m currently holding off ordering an X5 until I see what the 2008 has in options. A few of the major items I find missing from the 2007 are:

  • Power tail gate.

  • Night vision (currently offered on the 5&7 series)

  • “Birds-eye” view navigation

  • Active seat availability on the passenger side.

Look forward to seeing the details on the 2008 when they are released.

BMW X6 Power - XDrive50i & xDrive35i

BMW will once again introduce a ground-breaking idea to the world and the creation of a new segment with the debut of its all-new X6 Sports Activity Coupe at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in January.

The all-new vehicle redefines the very notion of a coupe—with five doors and four sculpted seats, a higher ride and loads of cargo space. It defies coupe conventions in one jaw dropping look, combining coupe agility and SAV versatility, taking the coupe to a higher level.

The new V8 engine with Twin Turbo technology and direct gasoline injection, is likewise making its world debut in the BMW X6. Displacing 4.4 liters, this eight-cylinder with maximum engine output of 400 hp and peak torque of 450 lb-ft available over an unusually large range of engine speed from 1,800–4,500 rpm, is the most powerful engine ever seen in a BMW X Model.

The new eight-cylinder is indeed truly impressive not only through its outstanding thrust and pulling force, but also through its compact dimensions. For this is the first eight cylinder gasoline engine in the world to feature its turbocharger in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders.

Hence, the BMW Sports Activity Coupe is an absolutely exceptional vehicle also beyond the direct range of BMW X Model competitors, ensuring unparalleled performance in all situations, regardless of road and surface conditions.

BMW article !

German luxury car and bike maker BMW, which has been shying away from re-entering the Indian motorcycle market, is now looking to source parts for engines and chassis for its high-end two-wheelers from the country.

"Already we have been sourcing motorcycle parts such as handle bars and die cast from India. Now we are exploring to source components for engine and chassis parts," BMW board member (international parts sourcing) Herbert Diess said.

He said the company, which set up an international purchasing office (IPO) in India between 2006-07, has been running a pilot programme to increase component sourcing from India.

"In the past few months we have visited over 100 suppliers and we are still in the monitoring stage for increasing sourcing of car components from India," Diess said.

BMW has started sourcing from India in a small quantity for cars as well, like software parts and has been closely working with vendors such as Mico Bosch and Conti, he added.

Diess, however, declined to comment on the value of components that were bing currently sourced from India and possible quantity that BMW was looking to procure from the country.

The company's IPO currently has a strength of five people and is likely to be further enhanced, he added.

Diess said the company was currently not looking at re-entering the Indian bike market after its initial attempts failed. The bike market in Indian being primarily for commuting, and didn't suit BMW's products, he added

BMW Board chairman Nobert Reithofer, who said the company was cutting as many as 600 jobs in overseas operations and 2,500 in Germany, was likely to add more manpower in India.

"In 2007, 200 jobs were created in India and if the market continues to grow as it has grown for us last year, we have to think of developing it further," he added.

The BMW group on Tuesday reported a net profit of 3.13 billion euros in 2007, as against 2.87 billion euros in 2006, up 9 per cent. Its revenues rose by 14.3 per cent in 2007, over 2006 at 56 billion euros.
